The negative environmental and economic impact of climate change is already visible in Kenya through changes in rainfall patterns causing floods and droughts.

Our approach to preventing these climate effects involves working and engaging communities through the following interventions:

Transitioning From Planting Trees to Growing Trees

Nawiri Mashinani fights for environmental protection by acting on the degraded areas by practical action of doing agroforestry and afforestation and commitment in growing the tree species through the help of the community. Restoring local water catchment areas to replenish aquifers and achieve an ecosystem that is sustainable in both dry and rainy seasons.

Agroforestry and Afforestation – Reduced Forest Loss and Increasing forest area

As Kenya’s population continues to grow, one of the major challenges posed is deforestation. Nawiri Mashinani is working on restoring nature and fighting climate change through Agroforestry and afforestation by growing different tree species in collaboration with the community.

Nawiri Mashinani has introduced local communities to cultivate agriculture practices targeting small-holder farmer families through market-led, sustainable agriculture based on agroforestry.

The programme is strengthening the capacity of farmers by contributing to climate compensation. We do this by providing authentic seedlings which are traceable and friendly to the environment. Ultimately, we empower farmer families to reduce poverty, hunger, deforestation, and climate change, and contribute to increased biodiversity and a better climate.

Every year we work with communities that want to make a positive environmental impact and increase their sustainability initiatives by planting trees across the country.

Environmental protection by acting on the degraded areas

Nawiri Mashinani is championing the safeguarding of degraded areas to public green spaces. We are working with the communities through public consultation to introduce petitions and forward recommendations to relevant government bodies on the targeted spaces to be secured.

Upon securing the spaces we work with local communities to grow, plant, and guard to maturity the trees planted through funding from well wishers, donors, forest enthusiasts and philanthropists.

Human-Wildlife Conflicts

Human wildlife conflict stands to be the biggest threat to the environment and wildlife due to close of quarters with humans caused by human encroachment and clearance of land for settlement and agriculture.

Nawiri mashinani has implement community led initiatives to encourage physical barriers, encourage safer on field herding practices and promote sustainable nature-based enterprises like beekeeping. We have also forwarded petitions to the county & National Government on Human Wildlife conflict
